2003 yielded Michael's first solo vocal record, “Words Collide” (Being a vocal record, that title is “Words”, not “Worlds”!.

Inspite of the constant mispronunciations, the album has been well received, and really shows Michael’s versatility as a vocalist & composer. Proggnosis chose “WC” to be their favorite Michael Harris CD, “because of the vocals, which add an identity to the music.”

Stand out tracks are “Wash My Soul Away” which according to disagreement.net is “a great prog metal track where vocals as well as instrumentation are absolutely convincing”; “Mask of Deception” features one of the best hooks on the record and a Rush feel musically; “Myopia” has a quite likable twisted acoustic vibe; and the wacky instrumental “Prosthetic Brain” according to metal-rules.com is “Primus, Dream Theater, and jazz all rolled into one”. Not to be missed is the grand finale, “Battle Fatigue”, an 8-phase prog epic about a neurotic ex-soldier attempting to find his way back to reality.
